Garlic, Allium sativum History

Garlic has a long history as a food and as a medicine.  The builders of the Egyptians pyramids were paid in garlic and onions.  From Theophratus (ca. 372 B.C.), Virgil (ca. 70 B.C.), Galen, Chaucer, Pliny and Hipprocrates to modern times, Garlic has served as one of nature’s most wonderful herbs.  The name Garlic is from Anglo-Saxon origin derived from gar (a spear) and lac (a plant) which refers to the shape of its leaves.  It was used during both World Wars by the British government externally for wounds.  Garlic is referred to as Russian Penicillin.

Garlic has been known to help tuberculosis, asthma, bronchitis, pulmonary disorders, skin diseases, stomach ulcers, leg ulcers, athletes foot, abscesses, epilepsy, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, contagious diseases, fevers, parasites, worms, yeast infections, nicotine poisoning, colic, wounds, digestive complaints, colds, coughs, tumors, cancer, gram-positive and gram-negative bacterias, and in old times, leprosy.

Allicin is responsible for the odor of garlic.  To get rid of garlic breath, put a drop of peppermint or spearmint oil on the tongue, or chew on a clove (that is, the spice clove).

Earaches

When I was younger, my mother told me that her grandmother was an herbalist and had recommended putting garlic oil in the ears for an earache. I always thought this was a little strange until I tried it!  Putting Garlic Oil in my ears overnight, along with Dr. Christopher’s B & B Tincture, helped my earaches go away overnight.

Instructions for Earaches
At night, use the following instructions even if only one ear hurts:
Use a dropper to put 3-4 drops of Garlic Oil in each ear.
Then use a dropper to put 3-4 drops of B & B Tincture in each ear.
Put cotton in each ear to hold the liquid in.
Rub the area behind your ear lobe in a circular motion with the index finger to help the liquid go deep within the ear.  Rubbing Sen Sei on this area also helps.

Recipe for Garlic Oil (if you want to make your own)
Chop garlic.
Pour olive oil to 1 inch over garlic.
Let it sit for three days.
It is now ready to use, as in the above Procedure for Earaches.

Chopped, Cut, or Crushed Garlic destroys the harmful bacteria in the body, and helps the good bacteria in the body.  The following recipe for a sore throat really works (I’ve used it).  I wasn’t used to spicy hot food (and I’m still not), and it felt like my mouth was on fire.  But this feeling goes away within a couple of minutes, and relief follows.

Strep throat, tonsillitis, sore throat preparation (this can help strep throat in 24-48 hours).
3-5 cloves of garlic, crushed
1 Tbsp. Raw Honey
1/8 to ½ tsp. cayenne pepper
Mix together, put 1 tsp. in mouth and let it slowly trickle down the throat.  Don’t drink anything afterwards.

Garlic activates the immune system and cleanses the body.
Honey coats the throat.
Cayenne Pepper brings blood into the area to aid in healing.

Plague

Garlic was used in the Four Thieves Vinegar to protect the thieves who robbed the bodies of those who died during the plague of 1772.

I’ve used Dr. Christopher’s Anti-Plague formula, which includes Garlic.  A person can tell it includes garlic when they take their first tablespoonful.  It may taste yucky at first, but it is helps the flu.

Candida Albicans

Antibiotics destroy the good intestinal flora, except candida albicans.  With the other good intestinal flora destroyed, candida albicans multiplies in the intestine, and will eventually drill holes in the intestine wall.  If a person has taken antibiotics, garlic will help candida albicans by getting it under control and restoring the other good intestinal flora.  Garlic is a wonderful antibacterial herb that doesn’t destroy the good intestinal flora.  Four cloves of garlic equal an adult dose of antibiotics.  Garlic doesn’t override the immune system like antibiotics do.

High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol

Garlic also loosens cholesterol from the artery walls, helps to lower high blood pressure, among many other things.  Dr. Christopher’s BPE Formula has Garlic, Cayenne, Ginseng and Ginger.  It helps lower high blood pressure and  reduces cholesterol.  A person’s serum cholesterol will go up at first because a person is cleansing (cholesterol test is a serum cholesterol test, i.e., a test of the cholesterol in the blood).   BPE should be used while cleansing with other herbs.

Warts and Moles

Slice garlic and place the cut area over a wart or mole.  Tape it on, and put on a fresh piece after the old piece has dried out.

Worms

Insert a clove of peeled garlic as high as possible in the rectum before going to bed.  It will come out with the first bowel movement in the morning.  This will help rid the body of worms.

Growing Garlic in the Garden

Growing garlic in the backyard garden is really easy.  Plant some now for a crop next summer!

Garlic can be planted around plants that tend to get aphids (rose bushes, etc.) and the aphids will disappear.  Using garlic as a companion plant will help discourage other bugs, too.
