Security is a working Computer
The location, power, and telephone connection affect your computer's
performance. Protect your computer from heat, liquid spills and dust.
A backup power supply with surge protection for your modem will protect
your computer better than a surge protector alone AND will provide you
with enough power to save your work and turn your computer off safely
in the event of a power outage. When you look at the price of a good
backup power supply (around $150), remember how much you have invested
in your computer and data. The first time you use it, you'll see this
bargain for what it is.
Remember to make a bootable floppy disk for your computer;
once you are unable to boot the computer, it's too late. This disk (here's
how to make a Windows 95 Startup disk)
should also include vital operating system files (the Windows
95 Registry for instance), CD-ROM driver, and utilities. Take
the time to read your operating system documentation and make a bootable
disk before you need it.
At least backup your data to a floppy disk. You can reload software
if necessary, but lost data is ... lost. If you backup to tape, ensure
that your tape backup software is on a bootable floppy disk too.
