Viruses
For those that need some background on viruses, CNet
has a several good articles on viruses for beginners. Software is also
offered here. A note on software -- just because it is available in conjunction
with an article or is a well known name, that does not mean that it is
adequate or best for your needs. I noted that two of the top four anti-virus
products were not in the list of anti-virus software offered. Also keep
in mind that a "false positive" (anti-virus product saying there is a
virus when there isn't) can be more costly for you than a virus. Whatever
product you use, make sure you follow the directions for making a "recovery
floppy". You will need it to handle some viruses.
Microsoft has Virus
information on their site.
Datafellows has Word, Excel, and Ami
Pro macro virus information.
Some sources of virus and security information and products (from
anti-virus product developers and vendors) are Symantec
Virus Alerts and Seven
Locks Software. If you would like to look up a virus, try
this virus
encyclopedia or this virus
description database.
Additionally, NCSA,
a security organization, and Virus
Bulletin, a technical publication, have information and links
concerning computer viruses.
FrontierNet does not endorse any particular anti-virus or security
product.
