Background 5JØA DXpedition |
The roots of this DXpedition were planted with the first DXpedition that the three of the four members took in 2004 to operate from Bolivia as CP6CW in the CQWW CW contest (NØAT, WØOR and NØSTL). Various members of that group have operated from Guatemala, Costa Rica, Anguilla, Turks and Caicos and Hondorus so a strong core of seasoned operators were in place. Over Christmas 2006, Bill, WØOR and Tom, K3WT had a holiday lunch and decided that the next DXpedition would be to San Andres island. A check with Ron, NØAT and Vlad, NØSTL verified that they would be ready. So the team was fixed. In July, planning began in earnest with communications made with prior operations to HKØ-land. In short order, hotel accommodations were made and the license applications were submitted to the Colombian Communications Ministry working in conjunction with the Liga Colombiana de Radioaficiandos (LCRA), the national radio club of Colombia. Rob, HK3CW’s assistance in Bogota was instrumental in expediting that process. Once we received assurances that the license application would be accepted, we committed ourselves by booking airline flights. So that’s the history. The final chapters will be written soon to report on our results. Stay tuned…
