Aging Services for Communities Programs:

Caregiver Support & Respite

Are you exhausted from caregiving?

Do you need a break?

Respite care can be provided on a short-term (2-4 hour) basis to relieve the caregiver of their 24-hour a day responsibility.

Respite care will be provided in the client's own home.

Aging Services for Communities offers affordable non-medical services to help people remain in their own homes as long as possible.

The Caregiver Support and Respite Program offers caregivers support and guidance through their caregiving journey. Respite to the caregiver is provided by screened and trained volunteers. To qualify for this program you need to be a primary caregiver who provides 24 hour care for a relative or loved one.

Your relative or loved one needs to be:

  • Age 60 or older

  • Residing in LeSueur County or a neighboring community

  • Ill with a long-term degenerative disease or chronic condition and unable to stay alone for more than 2 hours

Things we CAN NOT do:

  • We can not administer medications

  • We can not provide professional nursing care.

  • We can not do any heavy lifting or moving.

  • We can not administer any injection or diabetic testing.

  • We can not provide blood pressure or vitals monitoring.

  • We can not help with bathing or personal cares.

  • LASTLY We can not totally replace the love and care that only your family members can provide.

BUT we can help you remain as independent as possible in your own home.

Transportation

Are you unable to drive and need transportation?

Available to LeSueur county residents. Medical appointments can be anywhere in Minnesota.

Non-medical: Aging services for communities offers transportation and companionship to anyone going to non-medical appointments. A trained and qualified person will accompany you to your appointments for a fee.

Senior Transportation Program: If you are over 60 and not on medical assistance, we have trained volunteer drivers to take you to scheduled medical appointments. You will make a donation to ASC for the transport.

Medical Assistance Clients: Medical Assistance client rides may be free, please contact ASC to find out how.

Home Management (Homemaker Services)

Are you physically capable of managing your physical and personal cares but need some help from time to time with light housework in order to remain living independently in your own home?

We provide Homemaker Services to LeSueur, Rice, Scott and Waseca Counties.

Aging Services for Communities offers trained and qualified staff to help you with tasks such as;

  • Light housekeeping

  • Sorting your mail

  • Shopping for your groceries

  • Preparing meals

  • Doing your laundry

  • Washing your dishes

  • Taking out your garbage

These services are available with a sliding fee.

History of Aging Services for Communities (ASC)

Aging Services for Communities (ASC) was started in September 2004 with a grant through Minnesota River Agency on Aging.

Our first program was the Caregiver Support and Respite Services and from that point on we began providing Transportation utilizing Volunteer Drivers. ASC’s most recently added program was the Homemaker Services. The Homemaker Service is provided by paid staff.
