Alaska
As of 1 Dec, 2004, here are some of the 35mm Alaska slides which I have scanned to digital:
The first fishing trip each year was to Homer Alaska. Homer is a beautiful old fishing village located way down at the end of the Kenai peninsula. We always caught some shrimp off the pier, but we needed a lot to share back in Anchorage, so we also bought shrimp off the boats for 25¢ a pound: We would bring back 100s of pounds of shrimp packed in plastic trash cans, layered with ice. It was always a VERY popular trip with all of our friends and neighbors.
A bucket of shrimp right off the boat:
Many fishing boats at the Homer dock:
A lone fishing boat heads out:
A load of snow crabs in the hold. We would occasionally catch one of these in our shrimp nets too:
Hardy campers:
An artsy shot of lone fishing boat and driftwood:
Another:
The pier at Homer. We "shrimped" from this pier using weighted nets and canned cat food as bait. It worked very well:
The famous Salty Dawg saloon. The story goes that this building was washed out to sea in a storm and they brought it back in and set it up again. We met many interesting characters here: Me outside the Salty Dawg: Me inside. I don't know what I'm drinking, but it sure doesn't look like a Bud...:
