Beth's Knitting (May-06)

Update: Sunday, May 14, 2006

Okay.  Been a little busy with the knitting and not so timely with the updates.  Here’s what I’ve been up to lately...

KNITSOX

Yay! I have two socks!  They’re very comfy. Took a while - had a case of “second sock syndrome,” so staying motivated was a little difficult. Got some great new yarn for my 2nd pair of socks, but more about that later.

KNITPANTS

With the leftover sock yarn, I made Benjamin a diaper cover.  Or soaker.  Whatever you want to call it. Fits this bear really well, but Benjamin, not so much. Oh, well.  According to Amy it makes a groovy hat.

KNITDOBBED

A fun fur bed for the Dobbster.  All of the cats seem to like it.

KNITBAD

When bad things happen to good yarn. Got some great Claudia Handpainted yarn while in NYC with Snarky McSnark.  Tried to unhank into a ball while riding to the Newark airport for our anniversary vacation.  Oh, woe to me.  Even Snarky had some difficulties, but I doubt hers ended up as hopelessly messy as mine did.

KNITGOOD

Fortunately, I bought 2 hanks. This one did just fine, though not without some struggles. Fortunately I think I can salvage enough of the blob above to make a nice pair of socks. It’s beautiful yarn. Great to work with, too. Eventually.

KNITSQUID

A giant squid for Benjamin. Because, honestly, “every scary prehistoric beast should be made into a huggable toy”

In the works - a lace scarf in cashmere, the Claudia socks, and another squiddy thing for Baby Wolfe.

Day 3 of Knitting Olympics:

SOCK #1

sock1

sock2

Okay, it ain’t much - but it’s the first sock I’ve ever made.  So I’m pretty darned (er...no pun intended) proud of myself.  It’s warm and comfy too.  The good thing is that Joe was home over the weekend, and I discovered that this one size will suit us both.  Hooray!

On to Sock #2...

Okay.  I’m miffed. I just finished putting together a great crafts page, then the program took a dump, and I lost it.  So now you’re getting the quick-n-easy version. Here’s what I’ve learned how to knit so far...

Crafts1

Big Bad Baby Blanket for Amy and Craig’s son Benjamin

Crafts2

Purse for niece Jordan

Crafts3

Bulky scarf for Joe

Crafts4

Hat to go with Joe’s scarf

Again, sorry about the lack of detail, but after spending half an hour coming up with witty descriptions then losing them, I just don’t have the patience.

Currently working on a cat bed for Dobby, but it’ll have to be put on hold for the Knitting Olympics.  Over 2500 knitters from around the world will begin his/her own challenging project when the Olympic torch is lit, then finish when the closing ceremonies end. I’ll be trying my hand at some socks.  Wish me luck!
