Spent the weekend in Atlanta watching my good buddy John get married. Caught up with friends and family, albeit briefly. Came back to the hot-n-humid North for an entire week off of (office) work!

Since the house still bows slightly on the northern face, Joe installed some decorative pieces to mask the inconsistencies.

You can see at the bottom of the house that the plywood juts out just a bit. Thanks to Joe’s handywork, the bulk of the bowing will be hidden. And when we install the siding, it won’t look uneven. Yay Joe!

Joe also worked on other parts of the house while we were waiting for the porch decking to arrive.

Joe stripped the siding off of the laundry room. The window will have to go - as you can see, it’s directly in line with the edge of the porch. So we’ll remove that one and install something else - more attractive and more efficient than the plastic pieces of crap that Cracolicci installed. Little by little, we’ll replace all the windows as our wallets allow.

The guys came out today and worked on this drip edge thingy. I have no idea what it’s for, but they did a great job. I’m thinking it keeps water from seeping into the boards from underneath? I’m sure Joe will add something about this once he realizes how ignorant my captions are. :)

Joe removing the laundry room window. It was never really a good location, anyway - it’s rather disconcerting to be sitting on the toilet feeling as thought people could look in on you at any moment.

Yay! Our decking has arrived. Originally, we were going with Douglas fir, a strong and hearty wood, and we were going to paint it in the style of the period.

But our contractor said he could get mahogany for the same price. Mahogany! We thought we’d still paint it, even though painting over beautiful wood is a shame. Say HI to Tommy, one of our contractors who is doing an AMAZING job. He spends more time at our house than he’d like, but we appreciate every moment of it, and he’s a really great guy as well.

Then we sealed the “bad” side of the boards so they wouldn’t absorb moisture from underneath. We’re seriously considering NOT painting the decking (yet still painting everything else), just because this wood is too darn beautiful!

Oooh, this is going to be soooo nice! The sealer has to dry over the weekend. They’ll begin the installation on Monday. Hooray!!!
