Hands-On Help
We know all of you want to help and support Rachel and her family during this difficult time.  Living with a child with cancer stretches their emotions which makes it difficult for Mark and Jodi to make a decision.  It is emotionally draining for them when we ask them, "How can we help?"  They are then forced to think of something and they can't.  Just tell them, "I will bring a meal for Wednesday supper, what time do you usually eat?"  Or, "I would like to take the boys to the park on Tuesday, I'll pick them up at 10 a.m. -- will that work for you?"  If you need to check back with Jodi or Mark, you call them, don't expect them to call you.  Their minds are too full and there are too many other things happening for them to remember they were supposed to get back to you.

Talk to them and listen to what they are saying.  You may come up with several ideas on how you can help or share the need with someone who could help them.  If they say they don't want help at this time, respect their wishes.  Ask them again later -- they may have changed their minds.

After talking with Mark and Jodi for their suggestions, we formed the following list of ways you can help.  Many of you are not close enough to help with childcare, meals, etc., so we have set up the "Rachel Hansen Benefit Fund" where you can send your monetary gifts.

Of course, your prayers are a very important part of their needs.  A specific prayer list can be found in the journal portion of Rachel's Road.
