The formula for murder is not an art, it is a science. If you are the victim, it is the hard sciences. And for chemistry teacher Cal Oree, it is as hard as it gets; found dead in the lab, laid out on the slab. It is a murder that the audience will solve in the mystery comedy "The Science of Murder."

"The Science of Murder" is the 13th annual murder mystery comedy to be produced by the high school and will be staged on Saturday, September 30, 2006, at 7:33 p.m. To solve the murder there will be a lot of investigation and research. There will also be a lot of debunking theories and hypothesis. LIttle help will come for the suspects. They aren't the type to cry over split hydrochloric acid.

All the usual characters --- Adam Wait, Eli Mint, Ura Radium to name a few --- are suspects and there is only one way to figure this mystery out: turn it over to the audience.

"The Science of Murder" gives the audience a chance to solve a mystery while enjoying a night of dessert theatre, as well as helping raise money for charity. To solve this mystery, audience members will turn to CSI (Chemistry Science Investigator). swim.gifThe audience has approximately an hour to gather more 'data' and then they write down the character who committed the murder. After the character interview, a delicious dessert will be served, giving the audience time to submit their answers of whodunit. Shortly afterwards the final act is presented, revealing the murderer.

Prizes will be awarded to the correct responses.

If it was the social science we would just talk it out and no one would get hurt, but this is all about scientific investigation: was the murder a result of a mutiny by a AP Chemistry student, the failing baseball player or the newspaper reporter just looking to create a story on a slow news day.

Directing the production of "The Science of Murder" is Kelly Miller. The play is by Gem*Boy and filled with Adirondack and pedagogic humor with a lot of scientific tom foolery on the side.

Ticket donations for the Dessert Theatre are $7 per adult and student price is $5 each. The fun begins at 7:33 p.m. in the Lake Placid High School Auditorium - Saturday, September 30, 2006. For more information contact Kelly Miller at (518) 523-2474..
