It all began in 1969 with a $15 guitar. The movement of the century was afoot. One lone avenger (among many, I must add) began the long winding road of music, and life. There was truth in the music, a spirit that was calling to an entire generation to accomplish some grand design, unique it seemed to our own time. Viet Nam claimed quite a few, and at the time it was a great focus for the natural youthful rebellion that seems to be present in every generation. The starkness of that reality brought other neglected information into awareness. The state of our planet, for example. There were many movements springing forth promising various utopian outcomes. Philosophy was an 'in' thing. And the music! Everywhere was music. In the air, on the air, stereo lps, 8 tracks and a rock band in every garage. In the midst, and mostly around the edges that one lone avenger sought the purity of truth amongst all the multitudes of interpretations, from which many a best-seller issued forth from that part of the generation. Music seemed to be a bridge between us all, and now it seems proven that it binds, and connects nearly all the generations now alive. Slowly, so slowly, other Troubadours trod the same path, a lot of us met under the Rainbow, and the lone avenger was no longer alone. The heritage of Osley and Leary taught new genres of musical expression, and inevitably the acoustic guitar died a poignant death, only to be reborn into electric. And so we call it rock 'n roll, 'cause though it comes from just plain folks, it's still not quite 'country'. Electrified, we pushed the envelopes at the frontlines of the frontiers of the mind, and we understood a high comradery. Yet such high hopes cannot be sustained in everyone all the time, and lives take their different turns, or as a present day rock 'n roll prophet put it. "Life is what happens to you as you are busy making other plans." Now I must confess that I was the lone avenger, and through it all I hold to a dream and a vision shared still within the music. For several years after the Rainbow, Lynn (my wife) and I were the core. Many combinations with other musician comrades were tried, but too many conflicts arose. After some rather melodramatic events, best left behind, we gave up the band and went to Colorado to homestead on 40 acres. So there were many bands. Then Ebram (eldest son) stepped up to the bass, and the band became more solid. As the last bands drummer sailed off leaving a wake of many cops in his departure, Josiawa (son#2) took his obvious position as the backbone of the music. The 40 acres was consumed in some (more unspeakable) insanity while we were avisiting out west. We stayed, and here we are. This band understands what words like 'Spirit,' 'Truth,' 'Faith,' 'Belief,' 'Justice,' and 'Love' -to name a few- really mean. It is a part of our 'family values.' For an audio history of the music, check this out Generation has become predominantly a 'recording band' slowly producing the next and probably last CD, Dead, White, and Blue before the music, and the band evolves to the next stage. There is no new name change planned as yet, though it does seem immanent. There is something new infiltrating into the musical consciousness of some few intuitive musicians. Soon more will be revealed.. So the music goes on.
