Seaching the Web

I found the web to be a wonderful resource for finding things. My new fave serach engine is Google!. One of my first stops is HotBot, I find it to be a little more exhaustive than Altavista. But a neat part of altavista is that it is portable, for example:

Search altavista from here!

Search and display the results

If you're interested in searching the USENET newwsgroups, you can try Altavista, but you will probably have much more luck with Dejanews which is a great USENET search engine, with less than a days delay.

Maybe you only want to find someone, who may or may not be on the net. You can always search for their name in Dejanews, if they happen to post to USENET frequently. A better option might be Switchboard which is a listing of all the white pages in the US. If you're looking for your friend Tom Jones, and you're not sure what city or even state he lives in, be prepared for thousands of hits.

A few more web sites to try, though I have yet to try all of them, are WhoWhere?(which is multilingual to boot!) and Four-Eleven, and Bigfoot.
