Mrs. Mattie T. Nalley

Easley, Sept. 25 – Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Taft Nalley, 52, wife of S.J. Nalley, well
known contractor of Easley and Pickens, who died at the family home on Hampton avenue extension
in Pickens at 10 o’clock Sunday night, will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the
home. The Rev. J.D. Elrod will officiate assisted by the Rev. R.C. Kendrick, the Rev. J.R. George
and the Rev. Paul Beacham. Interment will be made in the family plot in Graceland cemetery in
Greenville.
Mrs. Nalley was a daughter of A.E. Taft and the late Mrs. Emma Campbell Taft. She was a native of
Anderson county, having lived for a number of years at Pelzer, but had been making her home in
Pickens since 1918. Mrs. Nalley’s death occurred after an illness of about 3 years duration and
several weeks of serious illness. She was a faithful member of the First Wesleyan Methodist church
of Easley. She was a teacher  of the ladies class in the Sunday school. She was secretary – treasurer
of the Woman’s Missionary union of the South Carolina  conference for a number of years. She was
also secretary of the quarterly conference and was a talented musician.
She is survived by her husband, her father, three sisters: Mrs. J.E. McKinney and Mrs. C.C. Lanford,
Atlanta, Ga.; Mrs. Joe Marquis, Miami, Fla; one brother, Fred A. Taft of Greenville.
The following nephews will serve as active pallbearers: L.M. , G.B. and Frank Nalley, Clark, Tom
and James Newton.

The following will compose the escort of honor and have been asked to assemble at the home at 1:50 :

The body is at the home.
