The Jamestown Police Department will be cracking down on unsafe drivers. Remember to buckle up. It's the law.

 

News Release: Jan. 29, 2007:

The Jamestown Police Department will be conducting enforcement checks throughout the city of Jamestown from the 25th of May through the 2nd of June 2007. These checkpoints will be located at East Central Ave, West Central Avet,Hwy 52 East, North Main street, South Main street, Rugby avenue, White Oak Road, 127 Bypass, and McGhee street. The Jamestown Police Department will be placing special attention to impaired drivers, unrestrained occupants, violation of child restraint laws, and other traffic related violations. There will also be several saturation areas throughout the City of Jamestown, Tennessee.

News Release:

The Jamestown Police Department has been conducting an investigation of check forgery and are in the process of issuing charges against Jeff Melton of Deerlodge, TN and Sally Ann Miller of Deerlodge, TN. It was discovered that these two suspects stole a checkbook from an elderly couple in Crossville. The Elderly couple was also scammed into buying groceries for Miller and Melton. The Crossville Police Department has been working in conjunction with Jamestown Police and has similar charges against the two suspects. The suspects cashed two checks at the Jamestown Wal-Mart and one check at the Express Market and Deli in Clarkrange. Jeff Melton is currently hospitalized and will be indicted for forgery (3 counts) at a later date. A charge of forgery (3 counts) has been issued against Sally Ann Miller.

During the investigation, the Jamestown Police discovered crucial evidence which linked the Miller suspect with a robbery that occurred at the Jamestown Wal-Mart on December 15, 2006. An unknown suspect had roughly and violently grabbed a purse from a lady while she was in the parking lot attempting to put her groceries in the car. Evidence shown that the vehicle involved in the robbery was the same vehicle involved in the check forgery. The Jamestown Police Department investigated further that Miller was one of three persons involved in the robbery. James Michael Miller of Robbins, TN was identified as the one who snatched the purse. Amanda Nichole Brown of Robbins, TN was the driver of the getaway vehicle while Sally Ann Miller was a passenger. A charge f robbery has been issued against all three suspects. The Jamestown Police Department wishes to thank the Crossville Police Department for their cooperation in the investigation.

 

News Release:

The Jamestown Police Department has officially closed an investigation involving graffiti in various locations in and around the city. The word "CHAOS" has been tagged at the City Park, Wright's Car wash, Price's Car Wash, The car wash on Gaudin Ave, York institute, and other various buildings and overpasses. Evidence was obtained and a suspect was identified. Chris Gilbert of Jamestown was charged on Friday May 1 with 6 counts of Vandalism after exclusive evidence concluded his involvement. The Jamestown Police Department wish to express to the public that "graffiti tagging" is a serious offence and violators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

 

News Release- March. 27, 2007:

Officers from the Jamestown Police Department and deputies from the Fentress County Sherrif's Department arrested Timothy Winningham on warrants for attempting to sale Schedule II drugs. Timothy Winningham was one of Fentress County's most wanted. Anonymous tips from the Fentress County's Most Wanted program led to his arrest. The Jamestown Police Department would like to thank the citizens of Fentress county for their support. News Release:

On January 9th, 2007, the York High School was broke into between the hours of 11pm and 5am. The school suffered a high amount of vandaliism and some property was stolen. The Jamestown City Police Department is committed to thoroughly investigating the case. There is a $250.00 cash reward for any information that leads to the arrest and prosecution of individuals involved in the break-in. Cell phones and drivers under 18

Effective immediately, Jamestown Police will be enforcing a new state law that limits the use of cell phones and similar devices.

TCA 55-50-311

(n) (1)  No driver possessing a learner permit or intermediate driver license pursuant to the provisions of this section shall operate a motor vehicle in motion on any highway while using a hand held cellular telephone, cellular car telephone, or other mobile telephone. 

(2) A violation of this subsection (n) is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable only as follows: 

(A) A fine of fifty dollars ($50.00); and 

(B) Such driver shall be ineligible to apply for an intermediate or unrestricted driver license for an additional ninety (90) days from the time such driver would otherwise be eligible to obtain such license type. 

(3) It is an affirmative defense to prosecution under this subsection (n), which must be proven by a preponderance of the evidence, that the driver's use of a hand held cellular or cellular car telephone was necessitated by a bona fide emergency. The use of a mobile phone while operating a vehicle by any driver who is eighteen (18) years of age or less to communicate with such person's custodial parents shall be deemed a bona fide emergency and shall not be a violation of this subsection (n).
