IBS Awards

Any student from an IBS member institution is eligible to enter the awards competition. Awards will be presented to radio station, not individual members; therefore students must enter the competition through their college, university or high school to be eligible.

General Rules

· Each entry should be submitted on a separate Mini-Disc or Audio CD and be clearly labeled. Only one entry per tape, MD or Audio CD.

· Entries may also be submitted on a data CD or a flash drive as mp3 files. All entries may be put on one data CD or flash drive as long as they are clearly labeled and named.

· New for 2012-2013! The preferred method of entry is data CD or flash drive. Files sent in on Audio CD or MD will be converted to mp3’s upon arrival to be sent to judges. Sending entries this way helps out our volunteers and is appreciated!

· New for 2012-2013! Your flash drive can be returned if you include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your entry.

· Programs may be entered in multiple categories (if applicable), but each entry must include its MD or CD (or another mp3 file on the data CD or flash drive) and a separate entry form and entry fee (if applicable).

· Entries must have aired on the IBS member station between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2012. Programs aired after December 31, 2012 will be eligible for the next year’s competition.

· By entering this contest, you give IBS permission to air your entry on the IBS Student Radio Network or on IBSradio.org.

· You retain the full rights to your entries.

· At the discretion of the judges, awards in all categories may not be given out due to either lack of number in entries or lack of quality entries.

· Judges will score each entry and up to the top five entries in each category will be recognized at the annual IBS Conference in New York City. The winning entry will be revealed during the awards ceremony at the conference.

· Any violation of these rules will result in the disqualification of the entry.

Golden Mic Award This is a self-inspection checklist that will be submitted to the judges and will serve as a professional/peer review of your station and assures you that your operation meets professional standards for content and general operation. Stations meeting a certain percentage of the criteria will receive the IBS Golden Mic Award for Excellence in Programming and Operation.

Abraham & Borst Award for Best Overall Radio Station

You are welcome to compete for the following “Best Station Awards” as listed below:

34 - Best High School Station

35 – Best Community College Station

36 – Best College/University Station (under 10,000 enrollment)

37 – Best College/University Station (more than 10,000 enrollment)

38 – Best Streaming/On-Line Only Station

In order to compete for the Abraham & Borst Award you will need to submit to one of the five categories above (as it applies to your station) and win that category. The judges will then look at the Best Radio Station award winners and name one “best in show.” They will receive the Abraham & Borst Award.

IBS Awards: Best Managers (New for 2012!)

For a number of years, IBS has, and will continue to honor great programming, air personalities, public service efforts and outstanding stations.

What about the people that work tirelessly to create the product?

Now is your chance to nominate your key managers for the new IBS Management Awards - to be given out at our fall regional conferences:

- CHAMPS Charter High School - Los Angeles - Dec. 1

Entering is easy and is a wonderful way to show your appreciation for those who make your station possible. Tell the judges about their leadership, inspiration, creative ideas or anything else you think makes your manager/managers the best in college radio!

IBS Awards

High School Station Awards Categories (both broadcast and web stream only stations)

IBS High School Radio Awards are awarded through Columbia College Chicago. To participate in these awards, member high school stations are encouraged to contact Mary Mattucci in the Radio Department at Columbia College Chicago by calling (312) 369-8156 or e-mailing her at mmattucci@colum.edu.

The deadline to enter is typically in the spring with winners being announced a few weeks later. Awards are presented to high school stations at the IBS Fall Conference each September in Chicago. High School award winners from the previous year will also be recognized at the IBS Convention each March in New York.

High schools are encouraged to enter in the three categories below. These awards will be presented at the IBS Convention in March 2013.

07 - Best Public Affairs Event/Promotion

In addition to submitting an on-air promos/announcement (:30 or :60 seconds), stations are encouraged to include supporting material, which may include, but is not limited to the following: promotional posters, copies of media coverage, event photos, etc. Please note items will not be returned, so please do not send originals.

13 - Best Promo Series

For the purposes of the Awards, a “Promo Series” will consist of no less than 3 on-air promotions (:30 or :60 seconds), submitted together on a tape, MD or Audio CD.

27 - Best Station Contest/Promotional Event

29 - Best Public Service Promotion

30/ 30H - Best Website and 31/31H – Best Station Blog
