About
Camp Chin-gu...
Camp Chin-gu is a Korean Cultural Camp dedicated to
helping
children adopted from Korea and their siblings explore their Korean
heritage. NEW: Children
of adopted Koreans, as well as the children of siblings of adopted
Koreans, are also eligible to attend camp.
Camp is open to children age three and up through age
13.
They are eligible to participate in the full day program that
runs from 8:30 AM until 3:00 PM. We offer
instruction in Korean cooking, music, games, calligraphy, arts,
history and language. But Camp is much more than just an educational
experience. Attending Camp Chin-gu is a wonderful way for children
adopted from Korea to meet each other and form lasting, life long
relationships. We have also enjoyed the participation of people from
the local Korean community who have come to teach special classes,
perform traditional Korean music and dances and share a rare
collection of royal Korean dress.
Children are eligible to attend Camp until they reach
age 13.
This, their graduation year, is very special, with a ceremony on the
last day celebrating the completion of their many years at Camp. But,
this does not end their ability to participate in Camp Chin-gu. When
previous campers will be turning 14 by the beginning of camp, they
are eligible to apply to become Counselors-In-Training (CITs). As
CITs, they not only have the opportunity to remain in contact with
all their friends from Camp, but they can also pass on all they've
learned to the next generation of Campers.
For those with the special drive and dedication and are
18 or
older, there is the opportunity to apply to be a Counselor/Teacher.
One camper even continued on to become a member of the Board of
Directors.
Registering for Camp is easy. Simply click on the
"Registration"
button, download the forms, and send them in with the appropriate
fees to the address listed on the Registration page. Previous campers
interested in becoming CITs can click on the CIT button and read the
additional information for them. Anyone interested in becoming a
Counselor/Teacher can click on the button for further instructions
and forms.
.
And please check our "Volunteer
Opportunities"
page often. Camp Chin-gu is completely run by volunteers, so we
welcome your help. The more we all contribute, the better Camp
experience our children will have. And often, our volunteers are
surprised by how much fun Camp can be for everyone involved. So,
please don't be shy, we're always looking for new ideas and welcome
the help of our families and those in our community. Each family is required
to assist with camp each year. You will find more
information on the volunteer sign up page.
Each
child will need to bring a labeled water bottle and a lunch each day.
We do many crafts at camp and at times they are messy. Please dress
your child accordingly for that and for the weather.
