Laura's Jewelry Box (Athena):

Laura's Jewelry Box is an art-deco picture on top of a walnut jewelry box.   I thought it might be interesting to show some of the steps a picture undergoes before it's finished.  Please ignore the various photographic artifacts around the picture itself as well as flash white spots in the final result:

The picture has been glued to the backing and the process of removing the paper tape that held everything in place has begun.

The picture is completely cleaned and is ready for varnish coating.

The picture has received a deep coating of decoupage and all fine details have been inked in. The background is blue-dyed birch.  Her ring and earring are mother of pearl.  The various medallions on her headpiece are abalone shell.  All of the green and red pieces of veneer are dyed birch.  Her face and hand are maple.  Her collar is cherry.  The cap is Seppelle.

In this picture you can see the box also.  The sides were joined with hand-cut dovetails.   The box is approximately 17" by 14" by 5" high and is made from walnut with side handles of maple.
