Eva Karpick was among the children raised by Bror and Edith other than their own. She is still a close friend of the family.
Bror was the first white man to build a house at South Indian Lake. He came with Matt Giselson, a friend from Norway and Jimmy Clee. Oscar said that his father raised about 20 kids besides his own. He would mend their mocassins for them and take good care of them. Oscar's wife, Caroline, said that he would check the shoreline each night to make sure all of the children in the village were safe. Oscar now operates Bror's old trap lines.
