Effingham County Past and Present, Feldhake, ed. Effingham, Illinois, 1968. Very good history and compiled by the same woman who wrote St. Anthony's Century 1858-1958.

Fiftieth Anniversary Souvenir of Effingham, Illinois 1853-1903, The Effingham Democrat, publishers, Effingham, Illinois, May, 1903  In many ways one of the best sources of early Effingham City history which was compiled and published by the staff of the Effingham Democrat an early Effingham newspaper.

South School Ledger, Truly one of a kind!  Contains all notes and items affecting South School which was located near the industrial park at the Northwest corner of Jaycee Ave. and Raney Streets.  Begins with the formation of the school district in on May 28, 1893 and stops June 28, 1918.

Also many of the surrounding churches have published parish histories. Teutopolis is the oldest, followed by St. Mary's at Green Creek, Sacred Heart at Lillyville and Effingham, Bishop Creek, etc. When researching remember that many records are still found in the local parishes and most of them only have a limited amount of staff and time to help you.  The German Lutherans also keep and maintain excellent records in the county as well. The other churches are a bit more hit and miss.
