PURPOSE OF THE ENDOWMENT FUND
The purpose of the Hoffman Trinity Lutheran Church and
School Endowment Fund is to receive gifts and bequests and to use them to
further the mission and ministry of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and
School, Hoffman, Illinois and the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, its
districts, seminaries, colleges, institutions and agencies.
WHO ADMINISTERS THE FUND
An Endowment Fund Committee, consisting of the
congregational treasurer and five elected members of the congregation, is
responsible for investment of fund assets and for making recommendations to the
Church Council and Voters’ Assembly for distributions out of the fund. The Pastor and President of the congregation
are non-voting members of the Endowment Fund Committee.

Individuals who desire to support the Fund should
designate their gift to: “
These designations will ensure that gifts will be
administered according to the terms of the Fund.
If you would like to make a current contribution to
the fund, you may fill out the contribution form that is part of this brochure,
place it in an envelope and either put it in the collection plate or deliver it
to the church office.
TYPES OF
GIFTS ACCEPTED
The Endowment Fund accepts gifts from individuals,
businesses, trusts, and estates.
Individual gifts can be made during an individual’s lifetime, or
following death through memorials, a bequest or gift in a will or trust, or
through beneficiary designation of some or all of the proceeds of a life
insurance policy, annuity, or retirement plan.
Gifts to the Endowment Fund may be
designated as follows:
Unrestricted Gifts—These gifts are added to the principal
of the fund and are distributed as recommended by the Endowment Fund Committee
to the Church Council and approved by a majority vote of the Voters’
Assembly. Distributions from
unrestricted funds are made for the same purposes as for Restricted Funds.
Congregational Restricted Funds—Gifts may be designated for specific
missions and ministries of the congregation, as follows:
1. Worship
Enrichment. Examples:
a. Scholarships
for students going into full-time church work.
b. Building
and grounds improvements.
c. Church
music.
d. Electronic
or technological improvements. (Sound system, audio-visual equipment, office machines,
computers, etc.)
2. Lutheran
Education. Examples:
a. Special
projects to support local Christian education. (VBS, Sunday School,
Confirmation, Adult Classes, etc.)
b. Scholarships
for day school or high school.
c. Special
projects to support our congregation’s day school and pre-school. (Computers,
new desks, teacher continuing education, etc.)
3.
a. Specific
mission and ministry opportunities outside of our congregation. (World mission
projects, mission projects of the Southern Illinois District, grants to LCMS
colleges, seminaries, high schools, and LCMS affiliated ministries)
DISTRIBUTION
OF FUNDS
Requests for distribution of
unrestricted funds may be submitted to the Endowment Fund Committee by
congregational members, committees, or boards
seeking resources for a project within the mission and purpose of the
Endowment Fund. The Endowment Fund
Committee will review such requests and make recommendations to the Church
Council and Voters’ Assembly for distribution.
Distribution of restricted funds will be
directed to the appropriate areas within the congregation for projects or
budgets for each of the restricted categories, allowing that congregational
area to determine the spending of the distribution amounts.
Distribution amounts will be the greater of the net
income earned, or a minimum percentage of 4% of the fair market value of the
Endowment Fund and will be disbursed at least annually.

financial assistance in furthering the growth, mission, and ministry of our
