Thomas Jefferson shiver was a Farmer.
David James Shiver (1st born of Miles K.) changed his name to James David Shiver. He and his brother-in-law Ed Colvin Grissett owned the Manistee Railroad Company at the turn of the century. He was the President and his brother-in-law was the Vice President. Manistee Alabama is located in Monroe County Alabama and would be where Frisco City is on our maps of today. There seems to be some records showing that James David Shiver was the first born of Miles K. Shiver and May Mary Harper even though the death certificate of William J. Shiver (17 April 1861-22October 1945) and the headstone of James David Shiver(18 November 1861-15 March 1911) shows James David to be the second child. The following is a letter I received from Linda Shiver Thomas (great, great grand daughter of Miles K. Shiver) telling about these records and other information about Miles K. family:
The only proof i have seen is the census records When you look at a 1860 Henry County, Alabama census the only child Miles has is listed as David J. Shiver , age 10 months old, born in Alabama. (You have to keep in mind that after Jacob Shiver the blacksmith who was born in South Carolina , died around 1857 , Miles K. came into Alabama and settled. Having no where to go , since Jacob's estate was being sold at the courthouse steps.) In this particular census record the name of the town he was born in was called Woodville. Woodville , today is called Gordan, Alabama - Houston County. At that time , Miles brother Samuel A. Shiver was also living in the household, there was also a 14 year old boy by the name of Henry Anglin staying with them. I don't know if he was someone Miles took in and gave a home to or if he was kin to them. Between 1860 and 1870 Samuel A. Shiver moved , but at this time i don't know where he went. There are several Samuel A. Shiver's listed in the census records for different counties surrounding where Miles K. Shiver lived . When you go to an 1870 census record you find Miles K. Shiver living at Beaver Creek, Alabama in Dale County , Beat # 6. You then see on this census Miles little brother John Shiver living with him . You also see that Mary Harper Shiver was still alive in 1870 and had David J. Shiver listed as the oldest , then William J, then Jacob last of all , being the youngest. Henry Anglin must have left with Samuel A. Shiver , neither of them are in the household with Miles and family in 1870. Then you go to an 1880 census record , Beat #6 , Dale County, Alabama , you find that somewhere between 1870 and before 1880 Mary Harper Shiver , Miles first wife died and he married Dallas and Scrap's mother , who was the sister of the first wife of Miles. The 1880 census list Dallas & Scrap's mother as Margaret, ( death certificates state that her name was Evelyn , but maybe Margaret was her so called name, i have not done any extensive research on the Harper line at this time, but will have to at a later date , once i get these Shiver's straight .) The 1880 census will show that David J. Shiver is no longer at home, which makes sense of the story Crone Shiver in New Mexico told me he had always been told, that David J. did not get along with his new stepmother and ran away from home as a young guy, along with his best friend, after Miles K. got a pick - ax after him . It makes sense to me because his new stepmother would have also been his aunt , this to me explains why David J. Shiver line said they never knew much about the rest of the Shiver's , and often wondered why . Looks like and sounds like he was angry when he ran away from home , and really did'nt have a whole lot to do with any of the family, but maybe once in awhile at an older age, perhaps. In 1880 William J. Shiver was still living at home and so was Jacob Allen , and Dallas with Scrap being the youngest. After Dallas & Scraps mother died , Miles married Sarah Long, which would have been after 1880 , its highly possible he married sarah in 1885 or 1886. They had Lilla Shiver born in March of 1887, and Dillard F. Shiver born in 1889 of October. Sarah died , one has said of giving childbirth , but i don't have any proof of this. Then as i have found out through marriage records we see that Miles K. Shiver married again on August 20, 1890 to Lena Logan , which is documented in the Henry County Courthouse. Apparently divorced her and married Margaret Ann Peeler on the same day , different year , August 20, 1891 in Dale County, Alabama . This marriage is also found documented in Ozark, Alabama - Dale County, Alabama. Margaret Ann Peeler was already pregnant with Josie before her and Miles married , you can tell by the records . Good grounds for a divorce for Lena Logan. Lena and Miles had no children. Then Miles and Margaret Ann Peeler are in the 1900 census record showing Scrap still living at home, along with Lilla , Dillard, Josie, Bug, Burton K., and Pess. Jessie was not born at this time.
Cousin Linda
Louisanna was known as Anna or Annie. The 1870 census list her as Lucy. Her headstone reads Louisna. Her marriage license shows Louvenia

William Jefferson Shiver's occupation was a Merchant. He lived 50 years in Myrtle Grove, Florida-Escambia County.
Jacob Allen was a Justice of the Peace at one time. He owned three turpentine stills and two general stores (one at Perdido Ala. and the other at Nokomis Ala.). He also had business in Flomaton Alabama, Century Florida, and Pensacola Florida. He lost everything during the depression.
Jacob, Dallas, and Scrap Shiver were very close and called each other Brother and always carried their guns. John Shiver Jr. tells the story about when he was a little boy he used to ride around with his grandfather Jacob Allen Shiver. This particular day he was standing between Jacob and Dallas while riding around checking on the pine trees for the turpentine stills when Jacob and Dallas begin arguing about whom was the best shot. When Jacob stopped and both Dallas and Jacob got out of the car John Jr. was real scared because he thought they were fixing to duel each other but they got out a silver dollar and put it up in a tree and both took turns shooting the silver dollar. Both hit the silver dollar. They got back into the car and drove off with them still arguing about whom was the best shot.
Another story goes that one day Dallas came into one Of Jacob's stores and asked him how much was a horse coller. Jacob said "Brother, I will let you have it at cost" Dallas replied "Brother, the last man I whipped was going to let me have something at cost so tell me how much is that horse coller".
Lula Long was a sister to Sarah Long.( Miles K. Shiver's third wife).
William Long Sr. was Lula Long's grandfather. Lula Long's father was James Anderson Long Lula's mother was Mary Jane Robbins Long. Mary Jane Long is buried at the Perdido cemetery.

Carrie died from taking Lye Soap. Died at her brother's house John Shiver Sr., 211 3rd Ave, Atmore Alabama.
Carrie and Ed Had no children.
Jesse's daughters were telling me the story of how Dallas met
Saphrona. He was married to Mary Elizabeth (nickname Molly) Pickron at the
time he met Saphrona Scott. The daughters referred to her as "Old Phrony",
cause she stole Dallas from Molly. From what I have been told not only by
them , but others, Saphrona was as mean as Dallas. Dallas's first wife
remarried , said she couldn't put up with Saphrona & Dallas running
around. They said Saphrona would come up to Dallas's house and call him at
the gate to come out, with Molly being right there at home, too.
Cousin Linda
This is what I do know, in 1880 he was still living at home. In 1890, he married
his first wife in Henry County, Alabama.
Zula Lee his daughter was born in 1891 in Perdido, Alabama. So that tells us
his line of travel for those years. He married his second wife in 1894 in
Henry County, Alabama. Something happened, he remarried Saphrona a second
time Feb 13, 1898 in Henry County, Alabama. His kids by Saphrona, first
child born 1895, second child 1897 , third child born 1899. The land record
copy you sent me was dated 1912 when he bought property in Perdido. I had
checked with Montgomery archives for a 1900- 1910 census on Dallas , and
they showed nothing for him at that time. He appeared in a 1920 Baldwin
County census as being 50 years old and Saphrona living there also. Its my
belief that he was in Florida at some time during those missing years . His
first wife Molly and his daughter Zula Lee stayed and lived in Walton
County, Florida. I posted a query in Iron City, Utah seeking information on
Zula. Dallas has a grandson there. I'm hoping he will see this query and
respond. His name is Dallas M. Taunton. He is heavy into the Mormon
religion. I'm just hoping he will respond . Maybe he would know a great deal
about his Grandfather Dallas.
Cousin LindaAccording to J. B. (Buford) Shiver they called Dallas "Two Gun Shiver". He carried one in a shoulder holster and one on his side or in his pocket. Ebb Shiver grandson of Miles K. Shiver said Miles K. had to trade off 50 acres of his land in Dothan Alabama to get Dallas D. Shiver and Scrap T. Shiver out of trouble with the Law.
According to John Shiver Jr. a black man went after Dallas Shiver with an axe and Dallas killed him. Dallas sent word to the sheriff that he would come into his office the next day about this matter. The sheriff was not in at the time so his deputy started getting up a posse to go after Dallas. During this time the sheriff came back and told his deputy NO, If Dallas Shiver said he would come in the next day he would. The sheriff told his deputy that he should thank him for saving his life. If he had tried to take Dallas he would have killed him.
According to John Shiver Sr. Dallas would slip up on his brother Scrap Shiver and shoot his corncob pipe out of his mouth.
Another story by John Shiver Jr. is that one day Dallas came to Atmore Alabama to use the phone for a business call. While he was on the phone talking business something happened to the phone line and he was disconnected and could not get back in touch with his call. He got so mad he went looking for the owner (Mr. Brantly). Well Mr. Brantly found out that Dallas was looking for him so he went and hid until Dallas went back to Perdido Alabama and had time to cool off.
According to John Shiver Jr. A black drifter came into town wearing a black coat with tails. He has started some trouble with the other blacks and Jacob Shiver had him before his court. (Jacob was a Justice of the Peace at one time). The black man stood up and said" he was not going to put up with this and he was leaving". He started leaving and Jacob never said a word but Dallas Shiver was at the back of the room. When the Black man got to Dallas he grabbed him by the back of the neck and the seat of his pants took and threw him back up to Jacob's table and said "brother I think he decide to come back". (Jacob, Dallas & Scrap Shiver always called each other brother).
Dallas died of Pneumonia. Scrap T. Shiver, Dallas's brother, was listed as undertaker at his funeral.
Mary Elizabeth (Molly) Pickron
Dallas's first wife Mary Elizabeth (nicknamed Molly) Pickron. Mary Elizabeth Pickron Shiver was born in Alabama and worked as a mail carrier between Defuniak Springs, Florida into Alabama. She married Dallas Dunkin Shiver on July 11, 1890 in Henry County, Alabama. Zula Lee Shiver was born into this union on October 11, 1891 in Perdido, Alabama - Baldwin County. Because of Dallas's temper, she divorced him and remarried to Jim Martin. They had a son, Henry Martin. Jim died and she again remarried to Uriah Woodham. Mr. Woodham lost his leg in the Civil War and passed away in 1923. Mary Elizabeth (also known as Molly) received a widows pension and helped Zula Lee support her eight children after her husband, Tildon Taunton died in 1928 from Bright's disease. I found her buried at Hatcher Cemetery, where Zula Lee Shiver Taunton is buried. Mary Elizabeth Pickron Shiver married a man by the last name of Woodham. I do not have a marriage date at this time. She was born August 22, 1873 and died April 10, 1938. Buried in a marked grave in the same section that Zula is buried in, section 9. I often figured Zula never was to far from her mother.

Scrap T. Shiver was a sheriff's deputy at one time. He had a wreck on Coleman Hill in Perdido Alabama that killed Charlie White. Vivian Shiver according to Sarah Ida Dunaway Shiver died at a young age. She was always very sickly.
89. Josephine Sarah (Josie) Shiver
She had two sons which she gave the Shiver name at birth. Later married Fred Harvey on 23 Dec 1923. At the age of 77 years old, Josephine died of cornary heart disease. She is buried at Bluff Cemetery in Bristol, Liberty county, Florida.
The reason she gave them the Shiver name was because when she was younger , after her daddy Miles K. Shiver died , she was seeing a married man there in Alabama. Story goes , Jessie's daughters know who he was but won't tell , they only say that the man provided for the two boys in exchange that he not be identified , due to his marital status.
James Joseph Shiver worked for MR&R Trucking.. Tallahassee Florida. He died of acute myocardial infarction.
B.B. (Bug) Shiver was born at Gordon, Alabama in Houston County. It was known at the time of his birth as Crosby, Alabama in Henry County. He dearly loved to play the Fiddle. I am fortunate to have a tape of their fiddling and singing that was given to me by Linda Mireille Shiver Thomas (cousin) who got a copy from a grandson of Bug's. Bug was a farmer.
