John Jacob (Jake) Shiver's mother Louisiana was a sister to William Calvin Grissett (affectionately known to Jake as Uncle Ed)
Jake was only 12 years old when his mother died.
Uncle Ed and his wife, Georgia invited Jake and his older brother, William Miles to come down from Frisco City to their farm near Barnett Crossroads and live with them on the farm during the summer months.
Jake often said to me "Uncle Ed and Aunt Georgia were like our own Parents".
Jake and Miles spent many summers living with Uncle Ed and aunt Georgia on the farm.
In 1942 when uncle Ed was in very poor physical condition with rheumatoid arthritis, Jake made these crutches for "Uncle Ed" who was very happy to receive them.
I was present when Jake brought the crutches and after Jake left Uncle Ed Said," these crutches mean a lot to me, y'all please don't every let them be thrown away.
This man "Uncle Ed" was my wonderful father-in-law.

PS: James Burney (Jimmy) was with his daddy John Jacob (Jake) when He gave the crutches to his Uncle Ed. Mary Grissett said Jimmy was around 6 years old at the time.
I do know that William J. Shiver 's grandaughters still live on his property there in Myrtle Grove, Escambia County, Florida . They live at 5510 West Fairfield Drive . Loretta Shiver is the daughter of Willie Miles Shiver, son of William J. Shiver. These ladies are up in age. I had called and spoke to Loretta last year i believe . And she is a very nice lady . I had also sent her a picture of miles K. Shiver and had told her i would like to get a copy of William J's picture. They do have pictures of him and his wife Christina . She never sent me anything though. She has a older sister named Lidia who lives on the property also. Very nice ladies. We did'nt have a chance to visit them when we went to Alabama earlier this year. Never enough time . Let me know what the doctor says.

John Jefferson Sr. married Ethel Wilson after Orba Lee Rhodes died. Ethel Wilson was first cousin by marriage to Nettie Novella Rhodes, John J. Shiver's first wife, and Orba Lee Rhodes his second wife. Ethel's mother was Mary O'Phelia Bryant. Mary was the daughter of Will Bryant who married Margaret Melvina Hall.
