Photography

Thanks to a loan from the Center of Imaging Science at Rochester Institute of Technology, we have the use of digital cameras in our Expoman program!

Not only do students learn how to take pictures with the digital cameras, they also learn the basics of good composition, and how to digitally alter the images on the computer. They use Photoshop Elements to improve images and to distort them.

Students in the class display their photographs using Power Point slide presentations, and they make collages of the best images. They participate in the EarthKAM Program, where they order satellite images from the International Space Station. The students label and analyze these images. See below!

The photograph on the right is part of a slide show produced by Kreag Bradley and Adam Kasper called the "Adventures of Expoman."

Ice Storm This photograph was taken by Zack Bulman at Ganondagan State Park outside of Victor after an ice storm.

ADVANCED STUDENTS learn…

How to improve images by cropping, changing color balance, etc.
• How to create collages of images in different layers using Photoshop Elements.

EarthKAM

Digital Photography students participate in the EarthKAM program that uses satellite imagery ordered by the students from the International Space Station. The students are responsible for downloading the images, identifying important reference points, and labeling the images.
They also alter the color balance (creating false-color images) whenever it is needed to see features more clearly.
