The Science Olympiad
competition pits teams of middle school students against
each other in twenty different events. In February 2004, Team Victor made its third straight appearance
in the regionals at St. John Fisher College in Rochester. This time we had
T-shirts made for us by Mr. Bauerlein! Before the competition, students prepared by building stick bridges, designing planes, and practicing science skills. The emphasis is on preparation. If it doesn't work, improve it! Mike Kurvach tests the bridge he made. It did not break, even with 32 pounds of pressure! |
Each school can send a team of fifteen students.
In January, we set the final team to represent Victor. All 15 students competed
in at least two different events. In the February 2004 competition, Team Victor entered all 17 events open to us, which was a major achievement. On the right, Jenna Lipps shows off the homemade guitar she made with the help of Tech Ed teacher Mr. Wolf. We used it in the Sound of Music competition. |

On the left, Robert Bohn and Joe Bumpus get ready to launch a bean bag from a homemade catapult. This is one of the twenty events, and it is called Storm the Castle. They finished first!! There is a place for almost any interested student on our Science Olympiad Team. Some students excel in designing and building devices; others have a strong background in science content. The class is open to all 7th and 8th grade students, who are willing to work hard. Our goal for 2005 will be to seriously contend for a team medal (place in the top three). |
