So Many Choices 7/3 thru 7/18/18-   sent from DC

Hi everyone,

** An important message from some of our venue owners:  they love having us come to their establishments, to hear/dance to our excellent local music, to meet with friends, have a good time AND to  support them,  by purchasing food and/or beverages.  They have a business to run, bands to pay, and without our support, we will lose our venues…..and we’ve lost to many of them in past.  PLEASE DO NOT BRING IN YOUR OWN WATER, FOOD, COFFEE, or anything else from the outside. Thank you !!

Yes, this is a day early…..lots going on with the July 4th holiday tomorrow, and so many choices…..starting with tonight.   Hard to believe that we are in July already…..and it’s going to continue to be hot, hot , hot!  Please remember to stay well-hydrated and put that sunscreen on.  It’s no fun to be sitting on the sidelines if you are sunburned and/or dehydrated (and your dance shoes will NOT appreciate it!)    Whatever the weather may be, we do have our music & dancing to make us (and our dance shoes) happy & smiling.   Lots going on, so many choices……get out those dance calendars…… and start filling in those dates…..keep those (including mine!)  dance shoes happy.

With so much going on for all of us, I can’t think of a better way to help keep our sanity, work off stress, see our friends (both old & new), than to take our dance shoes out as much as possible.

If I have missed something, sorry about that. Things are to calmed down a little,  the “balancing act” between taking care of on-going family medical issues and more is easing up a bit.      And of course, some venues don’t always have up-to-date info, and, some send out info, just after I hit the “SEND” key…..hence, the “TBA”s.    But even with that, we have much to choose from.

As a reminder, I can’t predict the weather…..no matter where I/we/you are.   So, if you are in doubt, please check ahead.  Sometimes it can be cloudy in one place, raining in another, snowing or warmth & sunshine in another…. it’s called “Mother Nature” and she is in charge of the weather, but not our dancing. (well, that’s true most of the time).

For the ‘newbies” to SMC,    I will be continuing SMC and try to keep to a fairly regular “send-out” schedule, as I have done for the past years….even when travelling.

Ok...moving right along to this week's "So Many Choices" .......

As I have previously written, you should find SMC in your mailboxes between Wednesday and Thursday….and on occasion, a Tuesday.   We are definitely spoiled with all the many choices we have in DC.  However, an exception to that is Florida.  If you are going to be in Florida,  please do check out Southern Florida Blues Society’s website/ <soflablues.org> and Suncoast Blues Society (Gulf Coast) and Southwest Blues Society.   They have oodles of music venues listed, all over the state…… well worth the effort to check out…..they are both excellent sources for music that is great for dancing.   Be on the lookout for a few other websites to checkout next time…..quite a few of you have emailed me, asking where they should go for music, dancing, etc.  I have a few suggestions.  Stay tuned……………..

Yes, I have said this many times and I’ll keep urging all of you to take advantage of all that the DC area has to offer…we are so lucky to have the many choices that are free or have a minimal charge.  When I tell others how much we have to choose from on any given night, they are amazed and envious. We are truly very, very lucky to have all of this. I cannot say this enough …Please support our local musicians and bands and venues ! They LOVE us dancers! If we do not support them and our existing venues, we will lose much of our fabulous music that keeps us and our dance shoes happy!  When I post a new venue that a band has sent me info on, please try to get there and check it out. Like us dancers, the  bands are always looking for new venues…..so when they find one, let’s support them.  Get out your dance calendars and dance shoes.....fill up your dance card.....something for everyone!  And if you happen to be “listener”…many of the below listings you will also enjoy.  If I've missed something, it may because sites have not been updated…especially for the beginning of a new month.

For those who are new to the list "Welcome". Most of the time, SMC will be sent to you on a Wednesday. But occasionally you will find it in your mailbox a day early, or a day late, depending upon my schedule, and unexpected delays.  And occasionally, there will be an "Update to So Many Choices' sent out with any additions, cancellations, changes, something extra-special, etc, that I am aware of.

I know I say this often, but truly, how lucky we are to have so many choices!  Between dances with our fabulous local bands/musicians as well as national acts, classes, workshops, jams, festivals, parades, benefits, outdoor summer concerts and so much more, our dance shoes should be smiling and happily exhausted.  If you could just figure out how to be in more than one place at any one time, we could experience it all (I wish!).

Don't forget to scroll all the way down to “UPCOMING EVENTS  that you and your dance shoes will not want to miss.

See you on the dance floor!

Cheers, Robin

PS-Suggestion: if you are unsure that a venue will be open, if there will be a dance floor, if there is a change in band status, if the weather has turned yucky, or if I have been multi-tasking and listed a band twice for the same night, please call the venue or check online, especially if I haven't sent out an update.  Some changes are indeed, very last minute.

PSS- Guys-  Yes, warmer temperatures are here!   So, please remember those extra shirts…….it’s always nice have those for back-up in your dance bag…..and keep those “follows” happy !

PSS-  please remember to stay well-hydrated, bring your water and put the sunscreen on.  Its summertime in DC and it’s HOT!
