"Pistol" Pete Overgaard
was the lone offensive star of the game for the Bats. He scored the only Bat
goal and had another attempt deflect off the upper bar of the net in the second
half, which would have tied the game.
After the game, Overgaard was still optimistic about the Bat chances to improve
as he stated, "Opportunities are good to have and I definitely see a lot of
opportunities for improvement".
There was limited bench space as the overflow crowd took up space along the
boards and cheered on the Bats. Fan Jim Moir said, "they put on a good show.
But I don't see any benches. Isn't that why everybody is standing?"
Bud Baakonen actually showed
up on time for the game and was involved in a pregame dispute about the previous
week's injuries.
Novak, again icing his elbow, had a big "no comment" when asked
about his headgear after the game.
Many of the Bat and Mastodon players, plus most of the Bat fans, attended
a post-game review at Adrian's.
Ross "the boss"
Hedin was seen discussing the finer points of ice-fishing with Jerry "Sure
Hands" Shurhamer.
Coach "Shakes"
Hanson, after a call to the psychotic network, said the Bats will go undefeated
the rest of the year.
The next Bat contest will be this Saturday at 1:00 with Hanson himself taking
the nets.

Inside
the Game
The Bats lost to the rival Mastodon team 2-1 after being up to a 1-0 lead
early in the second half. The Ice Bats won the possession battle in the first
half but created few real scoring chances.
Former Bats "Top Gun", Paul "Craps Shoot" Wolfram who
has failed to tally a goal this year complained about his wingers inability
to dig the ball out of the corners for him.
The Mastodons rushes were fewer but much more dangerous. But solid work between
the pipes by Ross Hedin and the Ice Bats defense quickly clamping down. Prevented
rebounds and kept the game scoreless though the first half.
However a mental lapse by Mark Novak midway through the second half allowed
the first goal through. A second fluke goal occurred when a Mastodon semi-fanned
on a passing attempt across the front of the net which somehow found its way
into the goal.
