National rate is commissionable at standard agency 15 percent, net 2 percent, 30 days. Local rates are not commissionable. Classified advertising must be paid in advance unless an account has already been established for another purpose. Political advertising must be paid in advance.

If you wish to establish an account for display advertising, submit the names, addresses and phone numbers of at least three credit references. Credit cannot be extended until an account is approved. Credit customers are billed at the end of each month, and payments are requested by the 10th. A finance charge of 1-1/2 percent per month is applied after 30 days.

4. GENERAL RATE POLICY

Local rates (non-commissionable) are available to a company that has a permanent office in Monroe or an adjacent county, or an individual who lives in one of these counties. Other advertisers will be charged at the national rate. Package (contract) rates are available at significant savings from the rates on this card. Rates are not covered by a contract may be revised by the publisher with advance notice to the advertiser.

5. R.O.P.- PREPRINT RATES

LOCAL RATES:

Your rate goes down the more you advertise! It is reduced in 4-percent increments, based on the number of column inches published in The Journal:

Inches per month

50 or fewer ...........................$5.52

51 to 83..................................$5.32

84 to 115 ...............................$5.11

NATIONAL RATE: $6.84 per column inch.

MISCELLANEOUS CHARGES:

Photographs: One photograph - either taken by our staff or supplied by the customer - is free with an ad of one-half page or more. Otherwise, staff-made pictures are $8.00 each, with a $15.00 minimum. If the picture requires a trip outside the Monroeville-Frisco City-Excel area, there is a travel charge of $10.00 per half-hour. The charge for printing a customer-supplied photo is $4.50. For unusually large advertisements or quantities of pictures, discounts on these charges will be considered.

Heavy composition: When an ad requires an extraordinary amount of small type or detailed composition, we reserve the right to make an additional charge.

PREPRINTED-INSERT RATES:

The following net rates are based on the assumption that each tabloid page weighs approximately one-tenth ounce. We reserve the right to set higher rates for heavier pages. If the pages are larger or smaller than tabloid, the number of pages will be calculated in proportion to size and weight.

Single sheet: $55.00 per thousand copies.

12-page tabloid or smaller: $60.00 per thousand copies.

16- to 24-page tabloid: $65.00 per thousand copies.

28- to 32-page tabloid: $85.00 per thousand copies.

36-page tabloid: $100.00 per thousand copies.

Inserts must be delivered to our plant by Monday for the Journal or Thursday for PLUS. We need 7,400 copies for insertion in The Journal or 10,805 for insertion in PLUS - a total of 18,205. Maximum folded size is 11-1/2 by 13-3/4 inches.

6. SPLIT RUN

Preprinted inserts running in PLUS can be zoned so that your ad reaches the postal routes you want.

7. SPECIAL SERVICES

Commercial printing. We specialize in business forms, including multi-part snapout and carbonless forms, and in web printing of newspaper-type circulars. We can print your inserts for The Journal, PLUS and other publications. Contact Barbara Qualls, Glenda Price or Jimmy Booker.

8. SPECIAL DAYS - PAGES - FEATURES

Regular special Journal pages that carry advertising include Business & Farm, People, Churches, Sports and Classified Ads. Ads can be placed opposite the Editorial Page, but not on the Editorial Page itself.

A guaranteed position for you ad is available on a first-come, first-served basis at a 20-percent surcharge. Otherwise, we cannot guarantee any position but will do our best to place the ad where you want it.

Special theme sections of The Journal are published from time to time, and ads are sold for publication specifically in these sections.

9. R.O.P. DEPTH REQUIREMENTS

Maximum depth of a display ad is 21-1/2 inches. Maximum column width is 6 columns (13 inches) on one page or 26-3/4 for a double-page ad.

10. CONTRACT AND COPY REGULATIONS

All copy and illustrations are subject to approval of the publisher. The publisher does not knowingly accept ads of a fraudulent, misleading or discriminatory nature, and reserves the right to edit or reject any advertisement.

All political and public-opinion advertising must identify the sponsors. If a group is the sponsor, an individual officer or representative must be named, with the city of address.

Ads that look similar to news items must be identified by the word "ADVERTISEMENT" or "ADV."

The publisher will not be responsible for any claims resulting from a typographical error beyond the cost of the space involved and affected by the error. The publisher will accept no liability for failure to insert an advertisement. The advertiser assumes complete responsibility for the content of advertising. The advertiser shall indemnify and save the publisher harmless against any demands, claims or liability arising from the publication of said advertising copy.

The advertiser shall reimburse the publisher in settlement of claims or in satisfaction of judgments obtained by reason of publication of such advertising copy, together with all expenses incurred in connection therewith, including, but not limited to, attorneys' fees and litigation costs. Please read your ad the first time it appears, and notify us immediately of any errors. We cannot be responsible for errors continued after the first insertion.

11. CLOSING DATES AND TIMES

Journal deadlines are 1 p.m. Tuesday for classified advertising and 5 p.m. Tuesday for black-and-white display advertising.

The PLUS advertising deadline is noon of the Thursday prior to publication.

CANCELLATIONS will be accepted as late as possible, but we print some sections two days ahead of time - so notify us early. An ad canceled before publication is subject to a service charge of 15 percent of the price of the ad. We cannot guarantee to accept cancellations received after Monday noon for The Journal and after Thursday noon for PLUS.

Deadlines may vary during holiday periods.

12. MECHANICAL MEASUREMENTS

Both The Journal and PLUS use Standard Advertising Units - 12-pica columns, with 6 columns per broadsheet page and 5 columns per tabloid page. The Journal and PLUS are in broadsheet format, except that some special sections are tabloids. Tabloid pages are reproduced at 95 percent of original size. Broadsheet page depth is 21-1/2 inches; tabloid page depth is 13 inches.

Printing is by photo-offset. For best reproduction, submit black-and-white glossy photographs and line art with sharp black lines on a smooth white background.
