Blessings From God*s Brooks (Psalm 110:7)

This is a study of the different brooks in scripture and the signficance in their lessons.

I. Reinforcement : (David)

1Sa 17:40 And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.

God*s people are in a warfare that often brings us to the end of ourselves.

Note why we need this brook:

A. Warfare with no action

B. Will with no authority to perform it

C. Weapons with no ammunition

II. Readjustment (Elijah) I Kings 17:2-7 (read)

A. Halting before progress

B. Hiding before showing

1. Meals from Heaven

2. Ministry to distressed... 17:17, 18

3. Meeting with Ahab... 18:1

4. Miracle of fire

5. Manifestation of rain... 18:46

C Hopelessness before strength. . . 19:1-10

III Refreshment Psalm 42:1, 2

Ps 42:1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. 2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

IV. Reassessment

Joh 18:1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.

* He drank a cup so I could have a well*

* He allowed himself to be sold to purchase me*

He cried "my God" so that I could cry "Abba"

V Redemption............ see text

Here we see the picture of a warrior stooping to refresh himself at a wayside

pool. Note the things that refreshed our heavenly warrior:

A His Father*s approval...

Joh 10:17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.

B. The outcome of His actions. .

Isa 53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
