God Forsaken (Mat 27:45-50)

Forsake -- to give up, abandon,

Think of a man or woman leaving their spouse

Child abandoned by parents

*But the most frightful of all is a man forsaken of God forever.*

 

1. My God, My God -- (The cry of desertion)

A. This is a deep cry of loneliness.

B. There is no question of God's existence

C. There is no question of God's Son.

Mt 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

 

2. My God, My God, Why -- The cry of destitution.

A. Not a cry of impatience or despair,

But a cry of a child who cannot bear that his father has left him.

B. Why? We must go back to gethsemane.

Isa 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

1. He was taking the sinners place

Isa 53:4,5 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

2. He was bearing the sinners sin

1Jo 3:5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.

3. He was dying the sinners death

 

3. Why has "THOU" -- The cry of Deprivation.

A. To be deserted by Judas was not surprising.

B. To be deserted by the apostles -- He could bear.

C. To be rejected by the jews was bad enough

D. But to be forsaken by God the Father was too much!

 

4. Thou "FORSAKEN" -- The cry of Rejection.

A. Christ was now experiencing God's hatred of sin.

B. Christ was experiencing God's punishment for sin.

Jos 7:12 Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you.

 

5. Thou forsaken "ME" -- The cry of Devotion.

A. There was no flaw in his devotion of his life -- He knew no sin

2Co 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

B. There was no flaw in his obedience, -- He was faithful unto death

Php 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

His suffered this for us.
