Mastering Your Moods I Kings 19:1-18

Moods can change like the weather.

Mastering your moods requires you to:

I. Release Your Emotions (v. 4) "...and he prayed that he might die..." (he didn't mean it)

ILL> Dede's sister Regina, (when burned, get mad at God)

ILL> Jesus on the cross--"My God, My God why hast thou forsaken me"

"... casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you." I Peter 5:6-7

 

II. Refresh Your Body (vv. 5-6) "So he ate and drank, and lay down again."

 

III. Redirect Your Actions (vv. 7-8) "So he arose... and he went..."

 

IV. Review Your Behavior (vv. 9-10) "What are you doing here, Elijah?"

 

V. Renew Your Mind (vv. 11-14) (Spiritual Renewal)

"(Elijah said) I alone am left... Then the Lord said to him... Yet I have reserved

seven thousand... "

(A) Moods are Driven By Meditation -- (Dwelling on good or bad)

"...be transformed by the renewing of your mind..." Romans 12:2

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom..." Colossians 3:16

"For as he thinks in his heart, so is he..." Proverbs 23:7

(B) Think Positive, Not negative

VI. Restore Your Direction (vv. 15-18) "Then the Lord said to him: Go... "

ILL> "If you get in a rut, turn the wheels"

Proverbs 25:28 "Whoever has no rule over his own spirit is like a city broken down without walls."
