Meeting with God Isa 6:1-8

This Sunday millions of people gather together.

They come to all kinds of churches.

They come to worship Christ.

They fall in 2 categories:

  1. Those who connect with God,
  2. Those who simply go through the motions.

Most of those in category two want to be in category one, or why would they be there.

  1. But some have obstacles in their way,
  2. Some it's doubt.
  3. Some it's confusion, or fear.
  4. Some it's unconfessed sin.

What ever the reason All what to get something out of it!

  1. Some go home feeling empty and bored.
  2. Some amazingly in the same service get exhilarated knowing that they have been with God.

ILL. A Pastor was shaking hands at the end of a service, when he was amazed. One person came by who enthusiastically said, " This is was one of the greatest services that I ever had." Another snapped and said, "The organ absolutely ruined worship for me this morning." (This was the same service!)

The most important element in any service is the Heart of the person attending.

  1. If your heart is bent toward God when you walk in the door, it will be full when you walk out.
  2. Joh 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

  3. Worship is getting touched and blessed by God!
  4. It can happen any time you want, but you have to prepare yourself.

It takes:

  1. The Right attitude about God:
  1. Worship begins with an attitude of Reverence (or respect) for God.
  1. He is not the Big Guy or the Man up stairs,
  2. He is not an impersonal Higher Power.
  3. He is God! Great, powerful, and worthy to be praised.

2 sides to God:

  1. God is transcendent (beyond anything earthly)
  2. Is the immanence of God (God is everywhere, but with all of us.)

Ps 138:6 Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.

God is:

  1. Good beyond description.
  2. Powerful beyond description.
  3. Holy beyond description.

Notice how Isaiah recognized God,

  1. Majesty (v.1)
  2. Greatness (v.1)his train (or robe) filled the temple.
  3. Supremacy (v.2) His angels were in attendance above him.
  4. Holiness (v.3 Holy Holy Holy.
  5. Glory (v.3) the whole earth is full of his glory.

2. The right attitude about yourself. (Peter Fishing)

Peter realized that he was in the presence of not just a man.

Lu 5:8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

When we see God as he really is, then we see ourselves as we really are!

  1. Being prepared worthy to worship. (v.6, 7)
  1. Worship is not something we do for God.
  2. It is something we do with God.
  1. Being Willing to Worship. (v.8)
  2. Remember that Worship is a lifestyle.

Mrs. Billy Graham keeps a sign above her kitchen sink that says, "Worship services held here three times a day." Worship is not a one-day-a-week event. It is a Lifestyle.

Ro 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

3. The right attitude about others.

1Co 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

1Co 3:9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.

Eph 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
