Navajo Nation Sheep Dip Vat Project
Background
Beginning in June 1994, the NSP and EPA Emergency Response staff conducted soil sampling at 22 dip vat sites to identify the range of toxaphene. These sites were successfully bioremediated using an anaerobic treatment method to breakdown toxaphene to 25 ppm or lower. These dip vat sites were closed out in late September 1995, June 1995, October 1995 and archived. The bioremediation had been a success.
