Geography of Midnight Ocean
The Midnight Ocean be large and complicated. Some routes have easy brigands, and some have hard ones. Some islands be uncolonized, so ye can't buy rum or shot there, and there be no ferry to get there again. New islands are added from time to time, and previously uncolonized islands get blockaded and settled, so ye can't forage on them any more.Tis a good idea to download the latest copy of a Map of Midnight Ocean periodically.
Midnight Ocean be divided into archipelagos. Each archipelago has a ferry from each colonized port in the same arch to every other colonized port in that same arch. To get from one arch to another, ye have to either sail, whisk, or take a Navy boat.
Archipelagos
Diamond: Turtle, Papaya, Byrne, Cnossos, Alpha, Oyster, Winter Solstice. Otherwhen crew sails a lot in Diamond, and all the islands are colonized.Sapphire: Remora, Beta, Iris, Vernal Equinox, Uxmal, Verdant Atoll, Horseshoe Crabs. At the moment, only Beta and Remora be colonized. Our flag (Water Sleeps) controls Beta, so we keep a lot of ships in port at Beta and sail there frequently. Please note that the brigands in Sapphire are tougher than most of the ones in Diamond.
Ruby: Jorvik, Eta, Islay of Luthien, Cranberry, Midsummer, Olivia Isle, Lynx. The last three be uncolonized at the moment.
Emerald: Guava, Wrasse, Gaea, Epsilon, Emperor, Spring, Tinga. All the islands are colonized.
Pearl: Nuptial, O'Reilly, Cleopatra's Pearls, Zeta, Ostreum, Frond, Tadpole Isle. Most of these are still uncolonized.
Opal: Orca, Endurance, Nu, Norse, Waterberry, Boyle, Flow, Oseberg. Most of these be uncolonized.
Jet: Haephestus' Forge, Namath, Rhinocerous Ridge, Lagniappe, Dugong, Eclipse, Chaparral, Xi. Most of these be uncolonized.
Coral: Park, Angelfish, Meke, Delta, Macaw, Monsoon, Turongo, Durian. Most of these be uncolonized.
Check the map before going to a strange port. If it be uncolonized then ye will not be able to restock there, so take extra with ye. Also check to see how hard the route be. Sometimes it pays to go a longer way around, to avoid an orange or red route. If ye have a good gunner and a good sailor with ye, and lots of shot, and are confident of yer ability to shoot the brigands to doll rags, then try the red routes. If ye be solo, or ye be still learning how to hit the brigands, then stick to the blue or green routes.
