John Horace McArtor

Eliza took John Horace and moved to Edgewood, Illinois, after the divorce. When John Horace (who was born in 1865) was in was in his mid twenties, he married in 1890 a young lady named Della Brown,(Della was born in 1874) according to a letter I (Harvey Barfield III) have come across written by Maryse McArtor in 1959 : "When John H. McArtor and Della got married they went out to Kansas City to visit some relatives. They came back and had one child named Ruth. She died a baby [and] was buried here in Colombus, Ohio." While living in Columbus, Ohio, in the 1890's John and Della had three sons: Oscar (born in 1892), Albert (born in 1895) and Walter (born in 1897). For whatever reason John and Della moved back to Edgewood, Illinois when Walter was just six months old.

They located on a large farm northeast of town. Over the years they had more children: John Jr. (born in 1899), William (born in 1901), Roy (born in 1903), Aileen (born in 1914), Howard (born in 1915) and Doris (born in 1917). According to Edna: " Grandpaw McArtor was a very good farmer. He worked hard and kept his farm neat and orderly. Everything was always picked up . . . He had a smokehouse on his farm. Every Fall he would smoke the meat that he had butchered. You never smelled anything as good as that smokehouse with hams and meat."
