Lord John Scrope was born about 1378 in Masham, England. He was the son of Stephen Le Scrope, 2nd Lord Scrope of Masham, and successor to his brother Henry Le Scrope, 3rd Lord Scrope of Masham. He married Elizabeth Chaworth before 24 Aug 1418 in Nottinghamshire, England. Their children were: Elizabeth - born about 1417 in Upsal, Masham, Yorkshire, England; married Henry Le Scrope, 4th Baron of Bolton, about 1435 in Masham, Yorkshire, England; died after August 1498 in Young. Eleanor - married Richard Darcy (born about 1424, died before 1458), had a son William Darcy (born 1443, died 1488) Thomas Scrope - born about 1428 in Masham, Yorkshire, England; became 5th Lord Scrope of Masham Sir John Scrope, 4th Lord Scrope of Masham, had his Barony restored in 1426. He bought back The Scrope lands confiscated following his predecessor's execution. He was Ambassador to The King of Spain and then to The King of The Romans. He served in The Wars in France after 1429. He became Treasurer in 1432. He died 15 November, 1455 and was buried in Scrope Chapel in York Minster, Yorkshire, England
