Ray Allison Cox


Ray Allison Cox, he was born in Clay Co., IL. On March 4, 1910. He was the son of Emery Elsworth Cox and Almira (Alma) Irene Cates. He married Dorothy Ione Ricketts on Nov. 8, 1930 in Fayette Co., IL. Grandpa Ray's given name at birth was Allison Ray Cox, but when he was older and needed a birth certificate he switched it to Ray Allison, but on his marriage certificate he is listed as Allison Ray.

Grandfather died in an accident when his children were still fairly young, his children are Kenneth E. Cox who married Helen Sapp, Vera Cox who married Mearl Roedl, Richard Cox who married Rosemary Sapp, my father, Harold Eugene Cox who married Gladys Ilene Yingst, Joan Cox, Mary Ellen Cox who married Ambrose Doedtman, Janet Cox who married Tom McWhorter then Otis Burgess, John Cox who married Barbara Bierman.

Ray Cox, 42, Of Edgewood Killed As Caterpillar UpsetsCertificate of Death

EDGEWOOD - Ray Cox, about 42, of Edgewood was killed this morning at Odin when the caterpillar he was driving overturned, crushing him underneath. The accident occurred about 8:30 a.m. shortly after he reported for work on the Illinois Central Railroad. Details of the accident were not available this morning. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; four sons, Kenneth, in the army stationed in Missouri, Richard, Gene and Johnny, all at home; and four daughters, Vera Roedl of Edgewood and Mary, Joan and Janet, all at home. He leaves his step mother Mrs. Ollie Cox of Champaign, two grand children, two brothers, Bill of Paris, Texas and Edward of Selma, Alabama; one sister, Dora Ort; one half sister, Wilma Cox who lives with her mother in Champaign; two step-sisters, Dancel Stiegel of Champaign and Mabel Richardson of Springfield. Mr. Cox was a member of the Edgewood Volunteer Fire Department. The body has been brought to the Gerbel funeral home in Edgewood. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

EDGEWOOD - Funeral services for Ray Cox, 42, of Edgewood, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Edgewood Christian Church, with Hira Byers officiating. Burial will follow in the Edgewood cemetery, and members of the Edgewood Oddfellows lodge will have charge of grave side services. The body is at the Gerbel funeral home in Edgewood.
