Sarah Christine Ricketts

Sarah Christine Ricketts, the youngest daughter of Jacob and Susan Keen Simmons, was born near La Clede, Illinois, Apr. 5, 1875, and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ray Cox of Edgewood, Illinois, at the age does 71 years, 9 months, and 8 days.

On June 27, 1895 she was united in marriage to John William Ricketts, at the home of her parents. Rev. J. G. Reed, President of the Southern Illinois Conference of the Methodist Protestant Church, pre-formed the ceremony. To this union were born four children Mrs. Pearl Jenkins of Iola, Mrs. Hazel Fallon of Petersburg, Mr. Arlu Ricketts of La Clede and Mrs. Dorothy Cox of Edgewood.

A few years after her marriage she was converted and united with the Methodist Church. She was loyal to her Master, and a faithful member of the church. She attended the worship of the church as long as her health would permit. She was a faithful companion, a loving mother, and a friend to all.

She leaves to mourn her departure a kind and loving companion, John William Ricketts, the above children, 17 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the La Clede Methodist Church, January 15th. 11: 00 o'clock a.m. conducted by the Pastor, Rev. Elmer Smith. Burial was made in that Keens Chapel Cemetery.

Weep not for this kind loving mother, This companion so loyal and true For there will come a day of rejoicing, When our work here on earth shall be through. Let's not think of parting forever But joining our loved ones on high, In that beautiful world that's eternal, And we shall never more die.

Note -- The spelling for the headline was CHRISTIENA and the spelling for her first name in the first line was Christena. I was told her name was Christine so I continue to use this in order not to confuse anyone.
