Born In Dante, Virginia, Shirley grew up the daughter of a coal miner that often moved his

family seeking work in the coal fields in West Virginia and Southern Virginia. Finally

settling down in the Bluefield, W V area, first in Bramwell and ending up in Montcalm, WV.

 

 Shirley is one of four children, and graduated from Montcalm High School. She met her late

husband Lonnie Moody that also lived in the Montcalm area.  Lonnie, too, was a coal miner and

retired from the coal mines and traveled extensively with Shirley for 16 years singing

Gospel Music.  Their travels took them through the Virginias and as far away as Florida until

Lonnies' passing away.  Shirley has joined GOSPEL MUSIC SHOWCASE as a member artist

and tours with other Showcase artists………  Wherever God calls them to go…..

 

 Shirley is an acclaimed BMI songwriter/artist as well as a performer, writing a lot of the

material that The Moody’s performed while in concert.  Best known for four of her songs

“For, I’ll Be Gone”, ”Royal Blood”, “His Broken Heart Bleed”, and “After The Battle”

all of which attained national and international prominence in the realm of

Southern Gospel Music…

 

 Having presently written and recorded 15 of her original songs, Shirley has many more

songs awaiting to be recorded on her future projects.  Having recently released 2 new projects,

“Haven Of Rest”, and “For I’ll Be Gone”. Shirley now has 5 CD’s available. Among Shirley’s

earlier releases:”He Can’t Cross The Blood Line”, “Did He See Me”, and “Shirley Moody’s

Original Songs” in which the song “For I’ll Be Gone” Charted #1 and “Royal Blood” charted #8

nation wide.  In addition the song “Lord Help Me Make It Through” charted #65 in the

European Market.

 

Shirley is currently working on a new project which contains more of her Originals soon to be released
