He was a butcher. Family story says he drank from a stream and died of typhoid fever. Another story said he died of being poisoned.

State of Ohio, Montgomery County, SS.
Probate Court, Dayton, Ohio, January 10, 1876 Gottlieb Zielke a native of Prussia, aged about 30 years, bearing allegiance to William King of Prussia and Emperor of Germany who emigrated from Bremen June 2nd 1879 and arrived at Baltimore June 16th 1879 and who intends to reside within the jurisdiction and under the government of the United States, to-wit: Montgomery County Ohio makes report of himself for Naturalization and declares an oath that it is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United States of America and renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to every Foreign Prince, Potentate, State, or Sovereignty whatsoever, and particularly to William King of Prussia and the Emperor of Germany according to the several acts of Congress made and povided. In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto affixed my signature and the seal of said Court at Dayton, this tenth day of January AD 1876 signed, (probate judge, deputy clerk)

From the passenger list of the S. S. Ohio, sailing from Bremmen via Southampton and arriving in Baltimore June 16, 1870, there is Gottlieb Zielke, age 25, last legal residence, Oldenburg, farmer. Also from Oldenburg and listed with him are Theodor Schönfeld 25, and Anton Huzenburg (or Hugenburg) age 23. There were 484 adult passengers on the ship, 32 children, 30 babies and 1 born on board.
