Herbert Patrick Dunning

  General Notes:

Herbert P. Dunning, son of William E. and Nell Dunning, was born at Shelby, Nebraska, December 21, 1892, and departed this life at the Grand Island hospitla on May 24, 1936 at the age of 43 years, 5 months and 3 days.

He was united in marriage to Maude Welsh at Vassar, Michigan, on August 15, 1915, and to this union were born two sons, Duane Austin, now fourteen years of age, and Herbert Neal, twelve years of age.

This family resided near Hazard for twelve years then moved to Valley View, where he was engaged in the mercantile business. His health failing, they came to their present home in Custer county, near Ansley, in September 1932. Although an invalid for several years, he was always cheerful and bore his suffering bravely. He was a kind father and loving husband.

Those surviving are his wife and two sons; his mother, Mrs. W. E. Dunning of Sterling, Colo.; two sisters, Mrs. Rena Clingman, Superior, and Mrs. Elberta Cain of Sterling, Colo.; seven brothers, Tom of Broken Bow, Clarence of Denver, Colo., Lew and O. B. of Glendale, Calif., John and Ted of Sterling, Colo., and Roy of Big Springs; besides other relatives and a host of friends. His father and a sister preceded him in death.

He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge for the past fifteen years and a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Hazard.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church at Ansley. Rev. Hendrickson of Berwyn conducted the services. Burial was made in the Ansley cemetery.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were: His mother, Mrs. Nell Dunning of Sterling, Colo., also Mr. and Mrs. Ted Dunning, Mr. and Mrs. John Dunning and son, all of Sterling, Colorado, Roy Dunning of Big Springs, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Clingman of Superior, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Asher, and Mrs. John Davis and Ione of Hazard, and Mr. and Mrs. Karl G. Schwind and son of Callaway. ¹⁷⁶

Herbert married Maude Lillian Welsh, daughter of Fredrick Welsh and Mary Magdalene Svoboda, on 15 Aug 1915 in Vassar, Tuscola Co., Michigan. (Maude Lillian Welsh was born on 10 Oct 1893 in Elba, Howard, Nebraska, USA, died on 20 Jan 1967 in St. Paul, Howard County, Nebraska and was buried on 23 Jan 1967 in Ansley Cem., Ansley, Nebraska.)
