From the Croft Parish Record - ""Banns of marriage were published in this church between John Fletcher of the parish of Darlington in the county of Durham and Margaret Cundell of this parish these several Sundays viz. 15th, 22nd and 29th days of January 1786 by me Wm. Bowe, Curate. John Fletcher of the parish of Darlington aged 22 and Margaret Cundell, spinster, of this parish, aged 21 were married in this church by Banns this 5th day of February 1786 by me Wm. Bowe, Curate. This marriage was solomnized between us in the presence of William Ord and Ralph Thompson (their marks)"
