My assignments in the Army after helping close up the Bristol site in 1974, included the Warrant Officer Advanced Course in Ft. Bliss, TX (75); Bootstrap to the University of Nebraska, Omaha, Nebraska (75-76) where I earned a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Science and Industrial); the 509th Artillery Detachment (nuclear weapons custodial duty with the Dutch Air Force) in and around Osnabruck, Germany (76-79); Warrant Officer Senior Course, Ft. Rucker, AL (79-80); Ft. Bliss, High Altitude Department, Chief of Instruction for Nike Hercules Missile and Launcher Area Maintenance Personnel (80-81), also where I earned a Master's degree in Management from Webster University; 94th Brigade Headquarters S-3, Kaiserslautern, Germany (81-84); and the Patriot Missile Project, Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL (84-86). I retired from the Army as a CW4 and started my first day as a civilian on April Fool's Day, 1986, in a second career with a Defense Research and Development Contractor in Huntsville, AL (CAS, Incorporated), where I've been employed and enjoying it ever since.
My
wife of 39 years (on 4 Feb 05) is employed by Huntsville Hospital as the
Nurse Manager of a Joint Replacement Unit where about 20 doctors have replaced
over 5000 knees, elbows, hips, ankles, and shoulders over the past five
years. Ruth originally hails from GrossSachsenheim, Germany, home of B/3/71,
where I was assigned in 63-66. She earned both her Associate's and Batchelor
of Science degrees in Nursing here in North Alabama. We travel to Germany
once or twice a year to visit her relatives and our son (a USAF Master
Sergeant, whom we are very proud of) and his family, currently stationed
at Spangdahlem Air Force Base near Luxemburg. We also have a daughter who
is an RN in Jacksonville, Florida, and between our two children, we have
three lovely grandchildren. We like to go to Colorado, Utah, or Canada
skiing most winters and usually go to Mexico or the Caribbean in the late
winter. Although I've never become very good at it, I enjoy hunting deer,
turkey, water fowl, and upland game here in Alabama, and in Northern Michigan,
my original home. Our entire family enjoys many fond memories of our time
in Bristol and Rehoboth, as well as our entire time in the Army. Keep us
in your prayers as we will keep all of you Nike Missileers in ours.
