Fabric Keeps Lots Drier

High-strength fabric designed to keep rock in roadway from sinking with the mud is proving its value in livestock feeding pads and loafing areas. The porous filter fabric allows water to drain through but keeps crushed rock from settling into the mud.

Agricultural engineers say the material is relatively easy to install.   The area to be covered is first graded or excavated to a depth of 6 to 8 inches.   The fabric is laid and covered with 4 to 6 inches of # 4 crushed limestone.   The final layer consist of 2 or 3 inches of fine material, such as lime or finely crushed rock.

The fine material on top is easy on animal hooves and it makes it practical to scrape manure from the surface.
