We held our bi-annual pond seminar on Thursday, August 30, 2007 The tour started at the Little York Fire Station where we boarded a bus and went to the Suzanna Simpson pond. Ken Russell, Fish Biologist for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources conducted the seminar talking about pond management, fish stocking, aquatic weed control, he also had species available from catfish to frogs and crawdads.
The next stop we went to the Ivan Swenson pond where Ken and the Conservation Police Officers did a shocking demonstration and answered questions from the audience.
We then returned to the Fire Station where we served catfish fillets, french fries, onion rings, baked beans and apple sauce. The District would like to thank the Simpsons and Swensons for letting us use their ponds and a big thank you to Ken Russell for all his time and effort. The next pond seminar will be late summer 2009.
