Dogs!

Bambi

This was Bambi, his first summer with us. We adopted him in

1980. He was half cocker spaniel and half golden lab. Bambi was

an intelligent, loving dog who greatly enjoyed swimming, sleeping

under our willow tree, and eating popcorn.

This was Bambi in 1995, laying beneath the willow.

Again in 1995, when old age and the lingering

effects of lyme's disease took Bambi from us.

Willie

Late in 1994 Willie joined us. Mixed golden retriever and (probably) Newfoundland, we had no clue that he would one day top 100 pounds!

Willie learned early how much fun it was to play with a ball.

Tastes good, too!

Newfoundlands, we're told, were bred to help haul wood.

We really don't think they were trained to eat the logs, though!

Scout

Along came Scout in 1998 who, being a purebred golden retriever, naturally feels he can be the boss. Here, at six months of age, he's taking four-and-a-half year old Willie for a walk.

Frisbees make for great tug-o-war toys. Here Scout is doing his best to avoid learning how to fetch the thing.

Succeeding rather well, too.

Scout is beginning to earn his keep. October 1999.

Willie, Spring 2002.

By contrast, here he is a couple weeks later, after his summer shaving.

Willie and Scout continuing their feud over who gets control over what's left of the tennis ball.

Scout won!

A rare shot of them being good. May 12, 2002...mark your calendar, it doesn't happen often!

Craig and Willie, June 2002.

2009 update: Scout suffered a stroke just before Christmas, 2008 and had to be put down just after New Year's Day. Willy, at over 14 years of age, developed some severe hip problems. By mid-July, 2009, it became obvious that he wasn't going to be able to enjoy life much longer. He went "over the rainbow bridge" on July 18, 2009. We'll miss both of these wonderful dogs forever. Especially Willy...about the sweetest, gentlest dog we've ever known.

Willy, on his last full day.
