Directions from Alpine, Arizona to the Blue River Wilderness Retreat
At the junction of Highways 180 and 191 in Alpine go east for approximately 3 miles on Highway 180 toward New Mexico.
Your will see Luna Lake on your left. Turn right at the green highway sign on your left that points south and indicates Blue River.
This road is Forest Road 281. You will stay on 281 for approximately 9.5 miles. It is paved for about the first mile. After that it is a good dirt road. (note: mile markers begin with mile marker 5 once you enter Greenlee County. There are no mile markers 1 through 4 while you are in Apache County.)
After about 9.5 miles you will see a group of mailboxes on your left and a Forest Road marker for Forest Road 16. Turn left on 16. (You have missed Forest Road 16 if you see the green highway mile marker 10.)
About ½ mile down Forest Road 16 the road forks. Take the right fork into the Blue River Wilderness Retreat.
