Stover picnic, gathering,
and reunion
For years, beginning in the 1950's or earlier, the descendants of Bert and May Stover - the Rodehorsts, Bohns, Riverdale Stovers and Poole Stovers - would gather somewhat annually for a pot luck picnic in Harmon Park in Kearney. With the passing of those family matriarchs and patriarchs, and with the increasing size of the grandchildren's families, those gatherings became less frequent, with the last one being about 1994.
A reunion was overdue, so, on September 3, 2005, we had one...
..at the Rod Stovers' on Sweetwater Ave. (although a pavilion at Harmon Park was reserved in the event of inclement weather.) Notice was short, the turnout was not great, but many acquaintances were made and renewed.
Surprise attendees were some Kerwin Stovers family from Loveland, Colorado. (Kerwin hadn't been back for ages.)
