Event Note
King Hiram Reeves entered into Confederate service in Co. C, 4th SC Cavalry either 1 Dec. 1862 or 20 Nov. 1862, depending on which service record card you believe. Hiram was paid a $50.00 bounty at the time he enlisted, so he would have provided his own horse and tack. Hiram was listed as being enlisted at Camp Pritchard by J.C. Calhoun, he served in the company until March 1864 when the company was determined to be “over the maximum number” and he was ordered transferred by Gen. Beauregard, he was left at Pocotaligo, SC for transfer into Capt Bachman's Co, Artillery (German Light Artillery) and, according to the service record cards, stayed in that company until 4 April 1864 when he was listed as “absent without leave” and was then listed as “Deserted” on the next service card. These are assumed to be the same person, the names and enlistment dates generally line up and they are found in common compiled service record packets and bookmarked to each other in the remarks section. |

Narrative
King Hiram Reeves, who was no doubt named after the biblical King Hiram of Tyre that had the house of David built for his friend {2 Sam 5:11}, is sometimes listed as "Hiram K. Reeves", however on the delayed birth certificate for his son, Harvey Richard Reeves, Harvey and his brother Doc list their father's name as "King Hiram Reeves". I have seen it listed this way as well as "Hiram King" or just "Hiram K." (as it is on his grave marker). With the listing of the name by his sons and the bible reference to King Hiram of Tyre I conclude that, although on a day to day basis he may have went by just Hiram, his given name order was as "King Hiram Reeves".
King Hiram Reeves' grave marker indicates that he served in the 4th SC Cavalry during the Civil War. The Compiled service records of Confederate soldiers from South Carolina units confirms this.
