Since 1991, the Lake Superior Chapter has been providing services to the blasting and mining community in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. Membership has swelled to over 100 dues-paying members. The core of the participant come from the mines and explosives manufacturers of northeastern Minnesota. However, the membership has included a wide variety of individuals from diverse geographical and professional backgrounds. The purpose of the Chapter is to promote good practices by providing a forum for discussion on enhanced safety and productivity in the use of explosives. A quarterly newsletter, an annual training session, a spring field trip, a summer picnic and quarterly membership meetings are the principle activities of the group. The Chapter provides scholarships to college students interested in the field. In the past ten years, over $60,000 has been given to students enrolled in related studies |
