Water Rights Protection

This section provides technical assistance to the Navajo Nation, Navajo Department of Justice, and the Navajo Water Rights Commission. The Navajo Nation is actively quantifying its federal reserved water rights in the mainstem Colorado River, Little Colorado River, San Juan River, Rio San Jose River, and Zuni River basins. The resulting litigations or negotiated settlements within each state and basin will ensure the rightful water rights of the Navajo people are protected for future generations.
